Fox Hollow Golf Club just outside La Crosse was the scene of the most competitive event of the 2019 TRGA season. The day turned into one fantastic finish after another.
Ben Socha needed and made birdie on the 18th hole to edge Trey Hewuse. Socha finished with a one-over-par 73, while Hewuse settled for a 74 and his second runner-up finish in two days. After playing his first four holes two-over-par, Socha hit the shot of the day. His drive on the 294-yard par-4 5th hole ended up 6 feet from the hole. He made the putt for eagle and held the lead the rest of the day.
In First Flight, Rick Stewart played the five par-3's in two-under-par and finished the day with a 72, his best TRGA round of the season. Stewart, who made four birdies on the day, needed every birdie he made, as Jordan Graf posted a 73. Jeff Pigorsch was next with 74 followed by Bill Feehan with 75.
Mark Werner was the winner in 2nd Flight. His 79 was one shot better than Kevin Drewiske, who just might be the TRGA's most unpredictable player. Just one week after firing a 100 at Cedar Valley, Drewiske bounced back with a 79, good for second place at Fox Hollow
As if three one-shot wins wasn't enough excitement, the other three finishes went to extra holes. Krista Drewiske chipped in for par on the first playoff hole to beat Terry Thomas in the Women's Flighted division.
The battle tested Marty Gora was the winner of a one-hole playoff in the Gold division. Gora, Mike Fortin and Jeff Krueger had tied with 89.
And in Third Flight, Dan Breeden made it back-to-back wins over the weekend. But he had to work overtime for the title. Breeden beat Mark Peterson in the third playoff of the day. They were tied after 18 holes at 84. Rob Hansen was third at 85.
