Low scoring was the theme for the TRGA's regular season final on Saturday at River Run Golf Club in Sparta, WI. As usual Tom McClintock was firing birdies. McClintock's one-under-par 71 earned him another win in the men's championship flight. This week several players were right behind him. Brad Preeshl finished in second place with an even par 72. James DeBoer and Connor Frawley were next at 73.
Kevin Groth continued his red-hot play this summer, picking up another win in the first flight. Groth eagled the par-5 17th hole, then made par on 18 to finish with a 74, which was one shot better than Steve Hulme who had 75. Hulme just returned from a two-week golfing vacation to Ireland.
Harper Taggart took home the second flight championship with a convincing win. His 80 was three shots in front of Bob Burns and Bruce Nordstrom, who tied for second place.
Speaking of convincing wins, Scott Knoth shot a 77 in third flight. Eric Flack was second with 82, followed by Michael Lewis with 84.
Dan Breeden was clearly elated that the rain stayed away. He shot a season-low 80 to take the fourth flight title. Steve Crogan was second with an 86.
And in fifth flight Tim Smieja's birdie on the par-3 15th hole gave him the momentum he needed to pick up the win. Smieja shot an 86. Adam Heuer was second with 89.
Chelsea Dunnum picked up the women's championship flight win. The former Viterbo University golfer shot an 86.
And Ruth Barton was the winner in the women's flighted division with a net 65.
