Familiar Faces Return to Winner's Circle

Some familiar faces returned to the winner's circle at the TRGA Cedar Valley Open Sunday.

Troy Dobbe from Viroqua made it 2 wins in 3 events with an impressive 2-under-par 70 to finish first in the men's championship flight. Dobbe's round included 5 birdies and only 3 bogies. Tony Roberts finished second at 73. Roberts closed with a 34 on the back nine.

In first flight, Thomas Grapes shot what he called "my best TRGA round ever." Grapes' 77 was 2 strokes better than Erik Burton's 79.

In the second flight Jeremiah Shimshak and Mike Feldner went two dramatic sudden death holes before Shimshak prevailed. Both players finished with 82.  Shimshak has been on a roll since last season. Feldner credited his performance to a new set of irons.

Third flight was an old fashion shootout. Monte Jacobson came through down the stretch shooting an 84.  Jim Gilbertson, Mike Huegel and Bruce Nordstrom tied for second with 85.

In Fourth flight, TRGA web-designer Kevin Drewiske was the winner with an 86. Dan Breeden was second with 88. Drewiske said "I realized that if I avoided penalty strokes, I'd be in contention."

Jeff Osgood and Scott Hackworth went one extra hole in 5th flight. After shooting 85 to tie Osgood, Hackworth said "I don't know if I have another good drive in me."  Turns out he didn't.  Hackworth hooked his playoff drive out-of-bounds and Osgood got the win.

In women's championship play, Viterbo graduate Chelsea Dunnum continued her outstanding play, winning again with a 78.

Terry Ziegelbauer won the women's flighted division with a net 3-under-par.

Next event on the TRGA schedule is Sunday, June 7 at Forest Hills in La Crosse, WI.
