Castle Mound has always been an excellent test of golf

More than 100 golfers will tee it up Sunday at Drugan's Castle Mound in Holmen, WI in the TRGA's fifth event of the season.  That includes 25 players in the men's championship flight.

With soaking rain all day Thursday, Castle Mound won't play firm and fast, but the course drains very well, so it won't be overly soft either.

Castle Mound has always been an excellent test of golf. There's a great variety of holes which require well-planned, solid shots. Miss the fairway and often times it's a punch out back to the fairway. Miss the green on the short side and saving par becomes a major challenge.  And leave the ball above the hole, and good luck avoiding the dreaded 3-putt.

On a personal note, I've had some highs and lows at Drugan's. I met Tracey, my future (and current) wife, in the old clubhouse.  (That's a high).  I also made 18 straight pars once. (another high)

And about a month ago I played 18 holes and hit exactly ZERO greens in regulation! (That's a LOW)

Tee times start Sunday at 8:00am.
