Weather continued to be a factor as the 2019 TRGA season rolled into The Golf Club at Cedar Creek last Sunday. Sprinkles and moments of sunshine gave way to steady rain before play was suspended due to heavy rains with most players still on the course. Fortunately for Tyler Church and Terry Ziegelbauer, they, and the rest of Men’s Championship and Women’s Flighted, completed their entire round allowing them to claim victory in their respective flights.
Expectations were high that the remaining flights could complete their round when the players headed back out on the course after a one-hour delay, but the rain would not let up and became even heavier. After completing one additional hole, play was again suspended and the decision was made to call the tournament.
In Men’s First Flight, Bruce Lindseth started strong and was declared the winner of a 13-hole event with a score of 57. Men’s Second Flight completed 9-holes, resulting in a tie between Bjorn Berg and Joel LaPlount with scores of 40. With less than 9-holes completed, Men’s Third and Gold flights were deemed incomplete.
Play continues this Sunday at the rescheduled Cedar Valley Open. Early forecasts show temperatures in the 90s and in a strange twist, no rain or snow. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for the remainder of the season.
